There is not a day that goes buy that I do not dream of renovating my home. It's fun I say...it can be my way...my vision. I'll renovate the kitchen...upgrade the bathroom...hey what about a side porch. Research and planning go into a successful renovation and consulting with your realtor to make sure that the changes you are making are in line with market values in your area is key. You do not want to be the "white elephant" on the block. Over building, excessive renovating and additions to a home should be in line with the area you live in. A market analysis of simialr homes in your area will provide you with the current value of your home. You can ask your agent to do this for you free of charge. If you decide to move ahead with upgrades to your home, keep in mind the re-sale value of your home and the universal appeal of the changes you plan to make. Your agent can advise you on this too. I consult with many of my clients years after I sold them their home. I love to hear what they are planning on doing and they are pleased to find out the current value of their home before any renovation takes place. It is a good guide and helps them decide if renovating is a good investment.
